Beliggenhed, beliggenhed...

“The property, once a convent, was not included in the 1855 classification, but surely it would be today” – Jancis Robinson

“Rivals the finest classified growths” - Bettane & Desseauve (tidl. årg.)

"I’d put Meyney right up there behind the leading super seconds of the appellation Château Calon-Segur, Château Cos d’Estournel and Château Montrose" - Wine Words & Video Tape

"The 2022 Petit Verdot was the most remarkable in living memory. It completes the blend to make a superb Meyney, which is sure to join the ranks of the property’s finest vintages. It promises to be concentrated, intense, juicy, fresh and incomparably well balanced." - winemaker, Anne Le Naour

Bordeaux 2022: TOP 10 VALUE REDS

James Suckling

96 Point

Le Figaro Vin

Dark and captivating on the nose, this wine reveals a deep character of dark red fruit, before unfolding brighter notes of tangy cranberry and rose petal. On the palate, it is pure, precise, and sensual. The fruit is generous, fresh, and perfectly ripe, wrapped in a delicate veil of fine cocoa, leading to an endlessly lingering finish.

95 Point

James Suckling

This always represents good value. Spicy, stony and floral at the same time with deep blue fruit and hints of pine, incense and cloves. Veins of tannins show a mineral verve. This is firm, powerful and long. A bit too young at this stage but already showing potential. A very good vintage.

95 Point

WinesCritic.com

Mature and satisfying, it shows a solid profile with a fat and voluminous nature. Notes of black cherries, red plums and black plums describe the main scene. Lots of black tea leaves the secondary one. Full body, perfectly ripe tannins and a balanced and essential finish.

95 Point

Izak Litwar, Great Bordeaux Wines

Violets and truffles, luscious blackcurrants, seductive, vibrant, great midpalate, strong backbone, great structure, and long mineral finish. This wine represents an incredible value for the money.

A vineyard that should perform strongly in this kind of vintage, because located right next to the river for air conditioning, with a mix of gravel with clear clay sections to retain freshness, and it's definitely one to look out for. Layers of redcurrant, raspberry and blackcurrant fruits, juicy mouthwatering finish, peony, pencil lead, orange peel, 3.75ph. Certainly this is a great example of Meyney. Hubert de Boüard consultant. A buy.

While I wasn't able to taste the 2022 Château Meyney En Primeur, it's a beauty now from bottle. Needing air to show at its best, this deep purple-hued Saint-Estèphe has a ripe, powerful nose of darker currants, chocolate, smoked tobacco, and cedar pencils. This carries to a full-bodied Meyney that has a broad, layered mouthfeel, ripe, velvety tannins, beautiful overall balance, and a great finish. It's accessible even today with a decant, but it's going to take a decade to hit maturity and will age gracefully on its concentration and depth.

Dense blackberry fruits go along with the rich tannins. The spicy wood flavors are a layer under the fine fruits. It has a future of ripe tannins and black fruits.

Rather opulent on the nose, with loads of cedar finely wrapped around the dark stone fruit – damsons and black cherries. The same wild northern Médoc herbal elements that one finds in Le Crock also but here with even more florality. This feels very natural and has loads of terroir character, detail and pixilation from the fine-grained tannins. Excellent, as it so often is, and with its own distinct personality.

The 2022 Meyney has turned out very well, offering up aromas of crème de cassis, bay leaf and pencil shavings, followed by a medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy palate that's rich and seamless, exhibiting an integration of tannin that can't always be taken for granted at this address. In fact, this appears to be the best Meyney produced for quite some time, and it's well worth seeking out.

Bordeaux’s Top Values: Château Meyney

Wine Words & Video Tape

I’ve been following Château Meyney for years in Bordeaux’s St Estèphe appellation. It’s one of the best wine values in a district that has a really good price quality rapport. Personally, I’d put Meyney right up there behind the leading super seconds of the appellation Château Calon-Segur, Château Cos d’Estournel and Château Montrose...

Om Chateau Meyney

Om Château Meyney

“The property, once a convent, was not included in the 1855 classification, but surely it would be today” – Jancis Robinson

“Meyney never made it onto the 1855 classification. And you know what?  All that is irrelevant if time and again Meyney produces a wine that in blind tastings not only performs admirably against more expensive peers but triumphs against all comers two years in a row. Conclusion? Something is happening at Meyney… Credit must go to Le Naour and her team, who have really taken a once enjoyable but rather rustic and inconsistent wine and placed it comfortably at the front of the Saint-Estèphe peloton.” – Vinous

“Today the estate has regained some of its giant-killer, insider’s wine reputation. Tasted blind against the likes of Château Montrose and Château Phélan-Ségur the wines perform well, not just against the latter but against the former too.” – Winedoctor

“Chateau Meyney is one the rare vineyards to have some “blue” clay soil on the slope facing the water, which only a few Grand Crus possess in their terroir. The blue soil gives wine a creamy and velvety touch with some black truffles notes too as the wine ages. The most famous vineyard with this specific “blue” clay soil is Chateau Pétrus. That is the reason why Michel Bettane, a famous journalist and wine critic, has called Chateau Meyney the “Petrus of St.-Estèphe.”  – David Launay

Cru frem for Meyney, trods sidstnævntes overlegne terroir.
